TV Mounting in Exton, PA

The mount is the easy part. What makes this job worth paying for is the cables disappearing into the wall and an outlet ending up behind the TV instead of a cord running down to the skirting.

Over the fireplace: what we check before agreeing

Most Exton great rooms were designed with the TV over the fireplace, and in a lot of these builds the builder even ran a conduit for it. Where they did, it is a clean job.

Where they did not, what is above a fireplace varies more than people expect — a chase, masonry, a flue, or a framed bump-out with limited depth. We find out what is actually there before drilling, because you cannot un-drill a flue.

The other thing we raise, and some people do not want to hear it: over a fireplace is frequently too high to watch comfortably. If you will be looking up at it for three hours on a Sunday, your neck will notice. Sometimes the right answer is a pull-down or tilting mount, and sometimes it is a different wall. We will give you the honest version and then do whatever you decide.

What the job includes

  • finding studs, and using the right anchors when the TV does not land on them
  • over-fireplace mounts, including whether the wall above yours can take it
  • running the cables inside the wall so there is nothing hanging down
  • an outlet behind the TV where there is not one already
  • soundbar, shelf and console mounted and connected

Townhomes: the party wall

A lot of Exton Station and Whiteland Woods townhomes have the obvious TV wall on the party wall shared with the neighbour. That wall is built differently from an interior partition — it is a fire-rated assembly, sometimes with a gap between two separate framed walls, and it is not somewhere to be casually cutting holes to fish cable.

It is usually still fine to mount on. It is not usually somewhere to run new in-wall cable or add an outlet. We check which wall we are on before starting and, if it is the party wall, we do the cable management on the surface in a way that looks deliberate rather than cutting into it.

Bring the mount, or do not

People often buy a mount with the TV and it is frequently the wrong one — too small a bracket, or a fixed mount when the wall needs a tilt. Send us a photo of the wall and tell us the TV size, and we will tell you what it needs before you spend anything.

Frequently asked questions

Can you hide the cables in the wall?

On a standard interior wall, yes. On a party wall in a townhome, no, and we will explain why and do a tidy surface solution instead.

Can you add an outlet behind the TV?

Usually. It is the difference between a clean install and a power cord hanging down the wall.

What if there are no studs where the TV goes?

There are proper solutions for that — the wrong answer is drywall anchors and hope. We will show you what we are doing and why.

Do you mount soundbars and shelves too?

Yes, and it is best done in the same visit.
