Smart Thermostat Installation

Connected Craftsman installs and configures smart thermostats — Nest, Ecobee, and Honeywell Home — for homeowners in Downingtown and across Chester County, PA. On older HVAC systems, the main question is C-wire availability, and we handle the adapter kit or wiring work it needs along with scheduling and geofencing setup before we leave.

What's involved

We install and configure thermostats from Nest (Learning and Thermostat models), Ecobee (Premium and Enhanced), and Honeywell Home (T9/T10). The biggest complication on older HVAC systems is C-wire availability — the low-voltage wire that powers a smart thermostat continuously. Depending on your system, that means an adapter kit, running a new wire, or — rarely — a job that isn't viable without an electrician. We assess which of those applies to your system as part of the visit.

Brands we work with:

Ecobee (Premium, Enhanced), Honeywell Home (T9 / T10)

What homeowners should know first

Beyond the C-wire question, a few other things shape the install: whether your system is multi-stage HVAC or a heat pump affects which thermostats are compatible and how they're configured, and if you have a humidifier or dehumidifier tied into your system, that needs to be accounted for during setup so it keeps working correctly with the new thermostat. We also set up scheduling and geofencing as part of the job — this isn't something we leave for you to configure on your own after we're gone.

Cost

Pricing falls into two tiers: a standard swap where your existing wiring already supports the new thermostat, or a job requiring a C-wire adapter (or additional wiring work) where your system doesn't have one already. Exact pricing is confirmed after a quick look at your specific HVAC setup.

Frequently asked questions

Will it work with my furnace or heat pump?

Compatibility depends on whether your system is single-stage, multi-stage, or a heat pump — we confirm this against the thermostat model before installing.

What if I don't have a C-wire?

That's common on older systems. Depending on your setup, we can typically use an adapter kit or run a new wire — in rare cases a system isn't viable without an electrician, which we'd flag before starting.

Do you haul away the old thermostat?

Removal of your old thermostat can typically be included — let us know when scheduling so we can plan for it.

Do you set up scheduling before you leave?

Yes — scheduling and geofencing setup are part of the installation, not something we leave for you to configure afterward.
